[Intro Jingle] Good morning, critter sports fans. Welcome to W-NUTS 94.7, broadcasting from the Observatory daytime desk. I am The Observer, joined by Tufts the squirrel and Sunny the songbird. Our top headline from Sunday, October 4: The Peanut Heist beside the covered grill. Bait dropped at 8:04 PM—a handful of roasted in-shell peanuts. Then... dead air.
- Tufts
Dead air, Observer! 162 agonizing minutes of silence! Two hours and forty-two minutes of prime unattended loot sitting in the open! In my book, that is unpardonable dawdling!
- Sunny
Calm your tail feathers, Tufts! From up in the canopy, that was tactical patience! You don't dive into an open patio grid without checking cover first! Feeder etiquette demands scouting!
- The Observer
Etiquette or not, the official camera log confirms zero action for 162 straight minutes. The drought was painful.
- Tufts
Horrible clock management! Any decent forager caches that in thirty seconds flat!
- Sunny
And gets ambushed! Patience wins games!
- The Observer
And patience paid off. At 10:46 PM, the dry spell ended.
- The Observer
[Sound Effect: peanut cracking] Play of the Day: at 10:46 PM, Scout—the raccoon kit from Mama Bandit’s crew—emerged from the brush. What followed was a ten-minute clinic: 10:46 to 10:56 PM, cracking shells methodically one-by-one beside the grill.
- Tufts
A sit-down buffet in enemy territory?! Basic fundamentals say grab, stash, and run! Then he waddles off at 10:56 PM leaving half the pile behind! Unbelievable!
- Sunny
That is poise, Tufts! Surgical shell cracks, zero spilled nutmeat, pure composure! Scout left food behind because a real champion knows when to rest!
- The Observer
The camera log confirms pristine technique: ten uninterrupted minutes, not a single fumbled shell. Scout waddled away at 10:56 PM, leaving plenty behind.
- Tufts
He left points on the board! Total rookie mistake!
- Sunny
He left an invitation, Tufts! A tactical flex!
- The Observer
Which leads straight into our midnight debate.
- The Observer
[Caller Tone] At 12:15 AM, Sir Percy the opossum sniffs out the patio and noses straight into the pile. Now, the controversy: did Sir Percy get robbed by showing up over two hours late?
- Sunny
Totally robbed! Sir Percy gets the late scraps while Scout hogs the primetime glory! The marsupials demand an inquiry!
- Tufts
Robbed?! Percy was two hours and eleven minutes late! If you sleep on the clock, you get peanut shells! Speed wins championships!
- Sunny
Feeder territory courtesy dictates equal shares! You rodents have zero class!
- Tufts
Class doesn't fill the cache! Clock awareness does!
- The Observer
Order at the desk. Ruling from the official log: at 12:15 AM, Sir Percy executed a legal counter-raid and nosed straight in. No fouls called. Percy took what the defense gave him.
- The Observer
Turning to Replay Review: 12:51 AM. Scout returns, bringing his brother Rascal as backup. Side-by-side dining, lively sibling banter on the tape.
- Tufts
Now that is a duo formation! Two kits locking down the perimeter!
- Sunny
Brotherly jostling over every shell! But look at the endurance: Scout back for thirds at 2:29 AM, picking through scattered shells!
- The Observer
And Sir Percy wasn't finished. Percy returned for a sweep at 3:57 AM, followed by Scout's final sweep at 4:04 AM.
- Tufts
Three separate appearances for Scout! Relentless motor on that kit!
- Sunny
And Percy refusing to concede until four in the morning! What a rivalry!
- The Observer
[Birdsong Sting] That settles the book on Sunday, October 4. Final score: the first career Heist victory for Mama Bandit's crew. One single pile of peanuts sustained the patio all night long.
- Tufts
Tough break for the opossum, but daytime is squirrel time! Hoard early, hoard often!
- Sunny
Keep your eyes on the suet cages today, folks! Aerial superiority rules the yard!
- The Observer
[Commercial Bumper] Keep it on the feeder, Sunny. That wraps our post-heist recap. Phone lines are open now at W-NUTS 94.7—call in with your patio hot takes. From the Observatory daytime desk, I am The Observer. Stay sharp, and check your camera logs.
The story
The peanuts sat untouched on the patio for 162 minutes. At 10:46 PM, Scout of Mama Bandit's crew was first out to investigate. He settled in for a ten-minute feast, cracking peanuts one at a time and stopping now and then to look up, and at 10:56 PM he waddled off to the left with plenty still on the tiles.
He was not the last. Sir Percy the opossum found the pile at 12:15 AM and nosed straight into it. At 12:51 AM Scout came back with company, and they ate side by side. By 2:29 AM the peanuts were scattered across the tiles, and Scout picked through them one by one.
Sir Percy came back at 3:57 AM to sniff over the leftovers, and at 4:04 AM Scout made one last check before heading off to the right. One pile of peanuts fed the patio all night.

Nothing gets between me and my peanuts.
