Mama Bandit & Kits
Northern Raccoon (Procyon lotor) — matriarch & juveniles
Five Playful Kits & Their Clan Matriarch, Lead Perimeter Scouts
The five kits and the clever matriarch who leads them on nocturnal reconnaissance along the patio and garden boundaries. Recognized by their miniature masks, faint tail banding, and agile, curious gait; the matriarch by her distinct facial bandit mask, wide frame, and 7 dark tail rings. She always checks the perimeter thoroughly before allowing the kits to venture forth to mirror her movements across the stone pavers and investigate new smells in the garden.

PERSONALITY PROFILE
Deeply loving, fiercely protective, running on zero sleep -- the weary efficiency of a single mother managing a five-ring circus. Thousand-yard stare, scruff-and-drag, and one low warning churr that freezes all five kits.
More about them
The Exhausted Matriarch / Chaos Coordinator, mother to Scout, Rascal, Bandito, Whiskers and Ringo. Deeply loving, fiercely protective, perpetually on zero sleep. She has worked this yard for years and knows every loose fence board, safe shadow and reliable food source; nothing at the Critter Crew Observatory surprises her anymore except the new ways her kits find to stress her out. Signature behaviors: the Thousand-Yard Stare (pausing mid-patio, staring into the dark while two kits wrestle behind her and Scout tries to scale the weather station); the Scruff-and-Drag (no negotiating -- she grabs a kit, usually Rascal or Scout, by the scruff and hauls them out of trouble like a sack of flour); Tactical Foraging (eats with utilitarian speed while the kits play with or wash their food in the Water Basin, knowing she has about three minutes of peace before Whiskers spooks at his own shadow or Bandito picks a lock); the Warning Churr (a low, vibrating rumble that freezes all five kits, the raccoon equivalent of a full middle name). In the crew: the center of gravity and undisputed authority. She quietly appreciates Ringo's attempts to help manage the others, hall monitor or not, and is the reason five wildly different kids survive their nightly adventures.
- Sir Percy: an offscreen associate. The family references brief, shy conversations with him -- never shown in full, just referred to afterward.
- Barnaby the Skunk: a real ally who helps the family out offscreen; referenced, not shown.
- The cats: feared, but Mama Bandit is the one animal brave enough to confront them directly to protect her kits.
- Dogs: the raccoons are the dogs' favorite target ('vagrants' to be caught); animals who like the family deliberately throw the dogs off their trail.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Another late night, another trip around the yard. The sky's overcast and the moon's on the wane, but the warmth in the air keeps me moving. 3:20 AM and we're at the grill, scouting for scraps and leftovers. I've got to stay on guard, keep the little ones close. No telling what trouble they'll find if I let my attention slip for a second.
Last night was so strange, friend! We started our adventures super late, like around 3:20 AM at the grill. The sky was all warm and overcast, and the moon was a Waning Gibbous. As we walked around the grill, I could feel Mama's exhaustion. Those pesky Neighborhood Cats showed up right after us, and Mama got all tense and protective. We took a little break at 5:20 AM, resting at the front view. My legs were so tired, and I just wanted to take a nap, but Mama said we had to keep going. We ended our night with a final movement at 5:24 AM across the patio near the grill. I'm so glad we finished, but I don't understand why we started so late tonight.
The Waning Gibbous moon hangs heavy in the overcast sky, its light swallowed by the warm, thick air. It's the kind of night that makes every movement a chore, every shadow a potential threat. We arrive at the grill just after 3:20 AM, paws padding softly on the familiar patio. The space feels charged, alive with possibility and danger in equal measure. I'm hyper-aware of every scent, every sound, especially when the cats appear within a minute. Old fears rise in my throat, but I force them down. No time for distractions. We're here for a purpose, and I won't let anything jeopardize the mission. At 5:15 AM, we're back at the grill, moving swiftly across the mat. I disappear from the frame, melting into the shadows like I've done a thousand times before. It's a small victory, but it counts.

That grill run at 3:20 AM, in the rain? Routine. I know every inch of that patio; I could walk it blind. But it's the thousand-yard stare that gets me through the night. Gotta stay sharp, got no time for mistakes. Not with these five running circles.
Thought I saw one of those cats at the grill last night, but I wasn't sticking around to chat. Too much to do, not enough time. Gotta keep these kits in line and fed. Barnaby's a good egg though, glad he was there at the end of the night. Can't do this alone, you know?
Ach, what a night under that Waning Gibbous moon. Mild and cloudy, but I'm running on fumes. First stop, the grill just past 3 AM. Walked across that patio, feeling the rain on my fur, paused to scope things out. Sir Percy crossed paths briefly. Off to the yard by 5:26 AM, moving slow and deliberate from left to center, then back out. Last sighting around 6 AM, with Barnaby the Skunk there too - glad to have that ally. Thousand-yard stare, job well done. Time for some well-deserved rest...
I was at the grill at 3:28 AM, walking across the patio while the rain fell, pausing only briefly before continuing; I do not tolerate sloppy movement. At 3:53 AM, I walked from the right to the center, then back to the right; this is efficient, not wandering, and I expect the others to match my precision. I was focused on the task during my simple walking at 3:59 AM, and the mild night with some cloud was acceptable for visibility. In the yard at 5:26 AM, I moved from left to center, paused, and exited left; this was deliberate, and I refuse to be rushed by the late hour. I moved left to center and paused again at 5:46 AM, crossing paths with Barnaby the Skunk without interaction, maintaining my professional distance.
Last night was a long one under the Waning Gibbous moon. The mild air was heavy with clouds and the weight of another night on patrol. It felt like the rain would never stop falling. I made my way to the grill at 3:28 AM, moving deliberately across the patio, every sense on high alert. A few minutes later, I was back at the grill again, walking from right to center and back, always watching, always wary. Sir Percy arrived just before I did. At 3:59 AM, I was walking again, my steps purposeful, but the arrival of The Neighborhood Cats right after set my nerves on edge. Protecting my kits is always the top priority. Later, at 5:26 AM, the yard felt calm compared to the earlier rain.
5:26 AM. The yard felt quiet, just me and the shadows. I moved from the left, paused near the center to check for threats, then slipped back out. Efficient. Necessary. Zero sleep, maximum vigilance.
