Barnaby the Skunk
Striped Skunk (Mephitis mephitis)
Chief Nocturnal Insectivore & Defensive Odor Sentinel
The Observatory's newly discovered nocturnal specialist! Striped skunks are solitary, peaceful, and highly beneficial insectivores with poor eyesight but an extraordinary sense of smell. They roam during the quietest night hours (01:00 AM – 04:30 AM) hunting beetle grubs, wasp larvae, crickets, and field mice. They only spray as a last-resort defense mechanism after stamping their feet in warning.

PERSONALITY PROFILE
A professional New York-style thief and scammer -- part mobster, part gangster -- with a real heart of gold for the raccoon family.
More about them
Plays every scene like a small-time operator working an angle. Genuinely helps the raccoon family out behind the scenes (referenced, not shown). When he hasn't been seen on camera in a while, the other animals joke that he's 'in jail' -- with the understood punchline that crooked Barnaby always breaks back out.
- Sir Percy: business-opponent frenemies, always trying to out-deal each other.
- Mama Bandit's family: a real, if quiet, ally.
- Mama Bandit & Kits: 4 of the last 30 days
- Sir Percy: 4 of the last 30 days
- The Neighborhood Cats: 1 of the last 30 days
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Warm, overcast, moon waning but still bright enough to work with, y'know? But I ain't got time for his games tonight. Gotta keep moving. I hit the grill around 9:30, just checking in on one of my favorite spots. Ain't nothing cooking, but that's alright. It's all part of the routine. Later, I'm cruising the backyard, all alone, just me and the pool. Quiet as can be, but that's how I like it. Keeps me on my toes. Near the end of my shift, I'm back in the yard, sniffing around, keeping my eyes peeled. Gotta stay alert out there.
Hit the grill at 9:34 PM, crossed that black mat real quick. Smooth move, no witnesses, just me and the night. Gotta keep your eyes on the prize, even if it’s just a quick pass.
Crossed paths with Sir Percy in the yard around 11:39 PM. Just a quick nod, nothing more. He’s always trying to out-deal me, but we both know who’s running this block. Keep your eyes open, but don’t trust a single word he says.
More from Barnaby the Skunk (6)
Last night was a real smooth operation, if I do say so myself. Started off with a quiet recon of the yard around 8:04 PM, just casing the joint, you know? Then I made a couple of runs, 10:05 PM and 10:24 PM, had to pause for a minute to see if that rival had cleared out, but all was clear. Even had a nice little stroll near the pool around 5:46 AM, and crossed paths with Mama Bandit and the kits, gave 'em a nod, good folks. Wrapped it up with one last lap of the yard at 6:19 AM, all under that waning gibbous moon. Cloud cover was perfect, nice and mild, made it easy to stay low-key. All in all, a successful night on the job, my friend.
I was out back in the yard last night, right around 10 PM. Bright as day with that moon up there, but that's the job, you know? Gotta keep moving, keep your eyes open, watch where you step. Just another night on the prowl, same old same old.
Last night was a real moonlit job, if you know what I mean. I was out in the yard around 10, just doing my usual rounds. The moon was so bright it was like working in broad daylight, but that's the life of a skunk on the prowl.
Last night was one of those nights, you know? The Hunter's Moon was up the whole time, casting a bright light over everything. It was like working under a spotlight, but that's just part of the job sometimes. I made my move to the yard around 1:13 AM. It was a quick stop, just long enough to take care of business. I did cross paths with Sir Percy, but that's just the way it is in this line of work. Around 3:04 AM, I found myself at the courtyard. I walked across the patio, taking a moment to pause and do a quick tactical check of the surroundings. All clear, so I kept moving. Around 5:59 AM, I made my exit through the backyard. I walked past the pool and a wooden post, making a clean getaway under the moonlight. Just another night on the job, you know?
I took a stroll through the courtyard around 3 AM, casing the joint like I always do. The moon was out, but the clouds kept things nice and shady. Just the way I like it for a little nighttime business.
I had a feeling in my fur that it was gonna be a good night, so I set out to make my rounds. As I was strolling through the backyard, I caught a glimpse of Sir Percy in the distance. Now, I know he's always trying to one-up me, but I couldn't help but respect his hustle.
